Scrap Iron Descriptions

HMS #1 Iron – Grade I: No.1 HMS (2 foot) shall consist of clean iron & steel with a minimum thickness of 1/4", and a maximum size of 24"x18", material handling compatible to feed a furnace charge box. This grade may include ISRI code 201.

HMS #1 Iron – Grade II: No.1 HMS shall consist of clean iron & steel with a minimum thickness of 1/4", and a maximum size of 60"x24", material handling compatible to feed a furnace charge box.
This grade may include ISRI code 200.

HMS #2 Iron – Grade I: No.2 Steel (2 foot) shall consist of clean iron & steel with a minimum thickness of 1/8", and a maximum size of 24"x18", material handling compatible to feed a furnace charge box.

HMS #2 Iron – Grade II: No.2 Steel shall consist of clean iron & steel with a minimum thickness of 1/8", and a maximum size of 60"x18", material handling compatible to feed a furnace charge box.

Mixed Scrap Iron and Steel – Clean: Assorted iron & steel scrap up to any maximum size, must be free of white goods, such as washers, dryers, stoves, refrigerators, etc. & light gauge materials under 1/8" in thickness.

Sheet Iron (Sheet Tin) – Mixed: Sheet Iron (Sheet Tin) shall consist of miscellaneous iron & steel and may contain galvanized sheet, painted & coated materials, whole machinery & equipment containing other metals provided iron is the main content.

Cast Iron – Automotive: Sorted Automotive Cast Iron shall consist of sorted broken or unbroken cast iron automotive scrap, not to exceed 18"x18".

Cast Iron – Mixed: Mixed Cast Iron shall consist of assorted iron casting

Cast Iron – Sorted Machine: Sorted Machine Cast Iron shall consist of sorted broken or unbroken cast iron machinery scrap, not to exceed 18"x18".

Motor Block – Clean: Clean Motor Block shall consist of stripped cast iron motor blocks, free of oil, oil pan, valve cover and all foreign attachments, including aluminum, wire and transmissions.

Motor Block – Contaminated: Whole or part cast iron auto or truck engines. Transmissions may or may not be attached.

 


Note: The more you know about preparing and separating scrap metals, the more money you will make when you take your proucts to market.  Although it is not required, you will be paid more when your materials are separated by description or category into boxes, barrels or other containers and prepared according to the descriptions listed above.  Our goal at Stubblefield Salvage and Recycling, LLC is to help our scrap collecting partners get the highest possible price for their scrap iron and other scrap metals.
