Between Monday and Thursday of last week, number one and number two iron prices dropped dramatically by 50%. This will have a huge impact on local scrap buyers and dealers.
Current HMS 1 and HMS 2 prices don't even cover fuel and shipping costs and certainly does not cover prep.
Reportedly some local dealers are paying as little as $10 a ton for prepared #1 and #2 iron.
Full truck loads (TLT = 40 tons or more) delivered to Burbank or Portland were paying a mere $35 a ton as of October 29, 2008.
