Copper and Brass Prices Heat Up

Posted in

Demand for bright and shiny along with other grades of copper rose this week to a six-month high.Bright and ShinyBright and Shiny

Compared to the relatively low demand and low prices for copper and brass during the past six months, the world surplus of copper is easing as mines have slowed production and layed off workers.

h world economy and up and down commodity markets will support $1.35 per pound for scrap collectors.  This price is for clean, well-prepared bright and shiny copper.

Today the State of Oregon announce 12.1% unemployment for the first time since 1947 and some believe this number could rise as high as 15% in the very near future.  High unemployment in the Northwest coupled with the fact that the US now only produces about 20% of the gross world product (GWP) vs. over 50% just a few short years ago causes concern among scrap metal dealers.  A new business approach is emerging among scrap collectos and scrap processors.

More and more scrap collectors and processors are turning to 'same day processing' to minimize risk, guarantee profits and increase cash flow.  It also means buyers can pay the highest possible market price on any given day. This distinguishes Stubblefield Salvage and Recycling, LLC from other scrap metal processors in our region in that we agressively cycle our products to market rather than speculatively buy and hold our commodities.

The regional scrap metal business is rapidly changing, especially in the US.  We expect to see price vibrations during the next few months and will be working with our customers to ensure their metals are processed and sold at the top of the current market in our region.
